The department works with the school in presenting a seventeen-week DARE program. The DARE Officer also attends field trips with the sixth grade class to maintain a positive relationship with the children of our community. In addition to the DARE program, the department has added other school programs in order to introduce more police interaction with students at the North Hampton School, and Winnacunnett High School. Examples of these programs are; the attendance of several officers at the annual school picnic, and Halloween safety talks to grades 1-7 at the North
Hampton School. The additional programs for high school students include our active involvement in the internship program, sending department representatives to take part in Career Information Day, and the availability of North Hampton officers for interviews and assistance with the student’s senior seminar projects.
Another exciting event since 1999 is the annual visit by Santa Claus to the old North Hampton Town Hall in December of every year. This has been an excellent opportunity for parents and children to come see Santa and tell them what their wishes are during the Holiday season.
March of 2007 brought the parents and children of North Hampton to the seventh annual “Egg Scramble” at the Hampton Airfield. With the help of Diane Wheeler, Jan Facella of the North Hampton Town Offices, and officers on the department, plastic eggs with assorted treats inside are hidden around the airfield, and then the children and parents of North Hampton and surrounding towns arrive to find them. Of course we always take this opportunity to have the egg scramble bunny show up for the event. This event is always a great deal of fun for the children and the parents.
The North Hampton Police Association, and the Police Department sponsor these events yearly by using funds donated by the residents and businesses of North Hampton. The department would like to thank the North Hampton School, the North Hampton Recreation Department, and the Winnacunnett High School for allowing the department to take part in these programs.
