The Planning Board is the local land-use regulatory agency with the important role of ensuring that community development is consistent with the will of the Townspeople and state laws. By maintaining the Town’s Master Plan, the Board identifies where the community is strong, where it needs improvement and how improvement can best be carried out. The Planning Board watches out for poor development and encourages orderly land development through the tools of good planning and land use regulations, and through the support of the community's
residents and the power of persuasion. Members of the Planning Board are elected for a 3-year term with two members elected yearly.
The Planning Board regularly meets once a month to review and vote on various land use applications. Please contact the Planning & Zoning Administrator for information on and the procedure for submission of applications. Meeting notices are posted in the Library, Town Clerk's Office and Town Office and published in the Portsmouth Herald or Hampton Union a minimum of 10 days prior to each meeting.
Additionally, the Planning Board holds monthly work session meetings in the Mary Herbert Room. Notices for these meetings are posted in the Library, Town Clerk's Office and Town Office. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend all meetings.
